Ed.D. Student Nancy Boblett presented at 2013 LANSI  ☆

Titled "Gesture-Echo", this talk describes a practice called gesture-echo, the repetition of a previously performed gesture which links the lexical affiliates of the original and its echo. The gesture-echo 1) disambiguates its lexical affiliate and 2) serves as visual shorthand, thus moving the interaction forward quickly and efficiently.

Ed.D. Students Catherine Box & Sarah Creider to present at TESOL 2012: What Students Do: Gauging Participation by Analyzing Nonverbal Conduct 

This study analyzes the nonverbal conduct of preschool-aged bilingual/ESL (Spanish-English) students as they participate in mathematical tasks in one-on-one tutoring sessions. Using discourse analysis, presenters show that students demonstrate their engagement through gaze, gesture, and body positioning rather than talk. Such findings may aid content-area teachers in assessing student involvement.
